Locomotive Roster Summary

I&M Rail Link's roster is made up of a variety of first generation EMD locomotives. Most of the IMRL's four axle units came from Soo Line, while the six axle units are former Montana Rail Link. The Soo Line locomotives wear their old colors with small "I&M Rail Link" logos on their cab sides. The ex-MRL locomotives have the word "Montana" replaced with the initials "I&M". There were several Montana Rail Link units that hadn't received the blue and black scheme before being transferred to IMRL. These units still wear their predecessor's colors with the small logos on the cab similar to the Soo Line engines. Paint schemes from Conrail, CNW, Susquehanna, Seaboard System, Southern Pacific, and Union Pacific can be seen and add variety to locomotive lash-ups.

This roster was made as accurate as possible by cross-checking several sources such as; Extra 2200 South & Diesel Era Magazines, Kalmbach's Diesel Locomotive Rosters, and personal & contributors' observations. For ancestry of each unit, including build dates and paint schemes, view the Detailed Locomotive Roster.
